Please help us in our mission of promoting and preserving Danish culture for future generations.

We support all Danish American organizations through your gifts as directed by you. Your preferred organizations will be funded in the manner and time frame you prefer. As a qualified 501c3 non-profit organization, your gift to the National Foundation for Danish America may be tax deductible.

The decision on which Danish American organizations to support, when and how to support them can be difficult. Sometimes you need more time to decide, but time constrains or other factors may be pressuring you to make a decision before you are ready. We may be able to help. By following your personal directive, we can establish a personal fund within the National Foundation for Danish America to make distributions in just about any time frame you choose. And, adjustments may be made at any time if you change your mind, or you simply wish to fine tune your giving.

To discuss your options on the phone, or in person, send us an email and we'll arrange a time to talk!

Consider this actual scenario that occurred a few years ago….

A supporter of Danish American organizations passed away and, in his will, left a sizable amount to an organization to be distributed in 5 years. After 3 years, that organization ceased operations. A contingency was not left in the will, so significant legal issues were faced on what to do with that part of the estate.

Through the National Foundation for Danish America, contingencies can be established so nothing like the above takes place. If your first choice is not an option, other alternatives can be followed. We can assure you that your gifts will support the preservation of Danish culture and heritage.

Unrestricted Gifts

An unrestricted gift to the National Foundation for Danish America supports our day to day operations, our Danish America outreach, our web services such as event registration, and web site development, and the Danish Voyage of Discovery scholarship fund.

Estate Planning

The future of our Danish heritage and culture will be built on today’s planned and deferred gifts. Together with our most loyal donors, we will be able to ensure that our Danish American treasures are protected and preserved for many generations to come.

There are several different ways to include the National Foundation for Danish America as a beneficiary of your will or trust. Here are some examples of suggested language. Please feel free to adapt this language with your attorney to fit your individual situation.

Residual Gift Language

A residual bequest comes to us after your estate expenses and specific bequests are paid:

I give and devise to the National Foundation for Danish America, located in Willmette, IL, all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or project).

Specific Gift Language

Naming the National Foundation for Danish America as a beneficiary of a specific amount or percentage of your estate is easy:

I give and devise to the National Foundation for Danish America, located in Wilmette, IL, the sum of $___________ (%) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific project).

Contingent Gift Language

The National Foundation for Danish America can be named as a contingent beneficiary in your will or personal trust if one or more of your specific bequests cannot be fulfilled:

If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and devise to the National Foundation for Danish America, located in Wilmette, IL, the sum of $ _______ (or all or a percentage of the residue of my estate) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or project).

Retirement Plan Beneficiary Language

You may name the National Foundation for Danish America as a beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement benefits. Donors should consult with their tax advisor regarding the tax benefits of such gifts.

Naming the Foundation as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh or profit-sharing pension plan will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing significant tax savings. It can be costly to pass such assets on to heirs because of heavy tax consequences. By naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, the donor maintains complete control over the asset while living, but at the donor’s death the plan passes to support the Foundation free of both estate and income taxes.

Making a charitable gift from your retirement plan is easy and should not cost you any attorney fees. Simply request a change-of-beneficiary form from your plan administrator. Then, enter the National Foundation for Danish America (Tax id # ) on the form with the percent you would like us to receive. When you have finished, please return the form to your plan administrator and notify the Foundation. We can also assist you with the proper language for your beneficiary designation to the Foundation.

Customized Language

If you or your attorney would like the Foundation to provide you with customized beneficiary language that is specific to your goal and interest, please contact us.
