THE DANISH HOME was located in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, thirty-five miles north of New York City. Founded in 1906, the Home, a 501 (c) 3 charity, is an independent retirement residence located on an historic estate.
The Board of Directors of the Danish Home for the Aged, Inc. announced it will cease operation of its adult care home effective December 31, 2020. Due to operational challenges, the Board determined that the best course of action is to surrender its operating license and transfer our residents to new residences. A Closure Plan was approved by the New York State Department of Health.

The Hans Christian Andersen Storytelling Center

On Saturdays all summer long since 1956, New York children have gathered around Hans Christian Andersen's statue at the Conservatory Pond in Central Park to hear his tales told by a fine ensemble of storytellers. ST. CROIX FRIENDS OF DENMARK was founded in 1964 by a group of community-minded local citizens who recognized the rich heritage of Danish rule on our islands (1733-1917). The Clearing Folk School

The Clearing was founded in 1935 by Jens Jensen, a Danish-born landscape architect. Many consider him to be the most important American landscape architect and The Clearing his “great work.” Jensen began acquiring the property that would become The Clearing in 1919 for use as a summer vacation home. Then, in 1935, at age 75, after retiring from his Chicago business, he achieved his longtime dream of establishing The Clearing. Foreseeing the effects of the automobile and the vast development of cities, Jensen founded The Clearing as a place where city people could renew their contact with the “soil” as a basis for life values. Today, many people come to The Clearing for this same sense of renewal and to be able to better manage the stresses and strains of everyday life in a complex and fast-paced world.

Friends of the Viking Ship

The Viking is an exact replica of the Gokstad. In 1893, under Captain Magnus Andersen, she sailed across the Atlantic (from Bergen, Norway to New York) and on to the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago (via the Erie Canal and Great Lakes).
Viking is approximately 78 feet long and is currently located in Geneva, Illinois at Good Templar Park.
Haugaard's West Denmark Fiddle School

Looking to inspire and attract students, recognized Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard, founder of the successful International Fiddle School in Breklum Germany, has opened an American version on the shores of Little Butternut Lake at West Denmark, near Luck, Wisconsin. The Fiddle School begins on the second Sunday in June with check in from 3:30 until 5:30. Supper will be served followed by orientation and warm up exercises to get ready for instruction on Monday through Thursday. There will be an instructors' concert on Tuesday evening, an open stage on Wednesday evening, and a final concert open to the public on Thursday evening. Nimbus Club of Chicago
The Nimbus was a Danish motorcycle produced from 1919 to 1960 by Fisker and Nielsen of Copenhagen, Denmark. Two basic models were produced, both with a 750 cc four-cylinder engine. The Chicago Nimbus Club was formed in 1985 when Per Bogehegn finally found one other person in the Midwest with a Nimbus.
North Park University - Center for Scandinavian Studies

Endowed by the Hugo A. Anderson Chair in Scandinavian Studies in 1982 and created in 1984, the Center for Scandinavian Studies (CSS) at North Park University has firmly established itself as a major focal point for Scandinavian academic and cultural interests in Chicago. As the name suggests, the CSS provides North Park University with a Scandinavian accent not evident at many other colleges or universities. The CSS sponsors visiting professors, lectures, language courses, concerts, and exhibits, bringing many talented and accomplished Scandinavians to the city of Chicago.
Old Kirke Museum

The church is a fine example of beautiful 19th century Danish architectural influences, featuring decorated gables, a spire, belfry with louvered openings, an elaborate hand carved altar and an intricately carved replica of a Viking ship, complete with masts, sails, rigging, boom and rudder. Over 130 years later, the ship still looks our over visitors form its perch on the balcony railing.
In January 1970, the church consolidated with the two other Manistee Lutheran churches. And in 1972, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, It is considered to be the oldest existing Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The church is open to visitors in the summer and includes a museum about the Danish-American history of Manistee County.

The upper floor consists of a dance hall with a balcony. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Church and Life is a periodical which seeks to be consistent with the philosophy and theology of N.F.S. Grundtvig. While the publication’s roots are Danish and Lutheran, its readers and contributors include many who are neither. The culture of the “Happy Danes” was experienced in the United States by immigrants committed to the Danish folk tradition of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church, later named the American Evangelical Lutheran Church. While the folk church of Church and Life has not existed as an entity for more than 40 years, much of its spirit continues.

Its rural 150-acre (607,000 m²) campus is approximately 26 miles (40 km) northwest of Omaha, and overlooks a portion of the Missouri River Valley. The name “Dana” is the poetic variant of “Denmark.” The college was founded in 1884 by Danish pioneers. Dana College ceased operations in 2010.

Danish Days in Viborg has a long and rich history dating back to Viborg’s earliest days. Danish Days was originally celebrated on June 5th to coincide with Denmark’s independence day. Due to scheduling conflicts, the celebration has been moved to the third weekend in July. Although the dates have changed, the spirit has remained the same. We still host many of the same events that our founding fathers did such as a parade, community worship services, ball tournaments and dances to name few. Luther Memorial Church

In 1896, a congregation of Danish Lutherans met in the lecture hall of Grand View College. It was later decided to erect a church on the land opposite the college. From 1918 onward, the congregation called St. Johannes met at this building. The church’s name later changed to Luther Memorial Church. For decades, the history and experience of the congregation was firmly linked to Grand View College (now Grand View University) and continues today.

The Danish Vennelyst Park first opened in 1936. There were many activities held at the park in the past. For example, dances were a popular attraction, along with concerts. Many people would get together and have a good time. This park made it possible for the Danish people to get together in the Omaha area and reconnect on a cultural level and enjoy traditional things from their homeland ranging from decadent food and dances, to entertaining games and activities.

The BYU Scandinavian Studies program is an interdisciplinary academic program teaching the cultures and languages of the Nordic region. Students taking classes in the program develop analytic and writing skill that complement any major. They benefit from small class sizes, engaging topics, and even the availability of scholarship money. Many of the Scandinavian classes fulfill GE requirements and most are taught in English translation. Beginning and advanced language classes include Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish. Students interested in pursuing an academic program can either minor in Scandinavian Studies or do Scandinavian Studies as an area of emphasis within the European Studies, Interdisciplinary Humanities, or Comparative Literature major programs.

Lower Columbia Danish Society
The northern Oregon/southern Washington region of the lower Columbia River and Pacific coast have a rich Scandinavian heritage because many immigrant families came here to seek a better life in America during the late 19th century and early 20th centuries. They sought jobs in fishing, logging, housekeeping, farming, and other trades. To ensure Danish heritage and culture remain a living and vibrant part of local communities, a small group of dedicated Danes started the Lower Columbia Danish Society in 1975. The charter by-laws were drawn up in 1982. As the daughter of one of the founding members wrote, the Lower Columbia Danish Society has provided multiple generations of members “with the means to experience aspects of Danish culture” ever since. Olaf Wieghorst Museum

Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988) was born in Viborg, Denmark and is known for his Western genre, Indian, cowboy and horse paintings. By the age of nine he was skilled in horseback acrobatics and performed as a stunt rider for the Danish Circus (Tivoli Theater in Copenhagen) and also throughout different parts of Europe. Olaf Wieghorst also worked on a farm where he regularly rode horses. He developed a love for horses and they were to become a major theme in his paintings during his career as an artist.

Danish Canadian Club of Calgary

Around 1928, three Danish clubs were established in Calgary. In 1933, the clubs decided to join forces. On November 30, 1933, 72 chartered members formed a new club named The Danish Canadian Society.
In 1944, The Danish Canadian Society moved into its own premises at 114-7th Avenue S.E. On November 9, 1945, the name was changed to its present name, The Danish Canadian Club, commonly known as DCC. In 1964, The Danish Canadian Club (DCC) sold its original location and purchased its present location at 727-11th Avenue S.W. We have been in the same place for more than 40 years.

The Danish Canadian National Museum exhibits the rich history of Danish immigrants in Canada--a saga that began over 1000 years ago in L'Anse aux Meadows and follows three waves of immigration through to the modern day.
Constructed in 1933, the Verbena Dormitory served as a boarding house for high school girls from the surrounding area.
In addition to the Verbena Dormitory, the museum boasts over 5000 artifacts and archival records, the Dagmar Church, Thomsen Cabin, Nielsen CPR House, Naust, The Freydis Joanna-replica Viking Ship, Jelling Stone, heritage garden, pond with our very own mermaid, 14 acres of green space with walking paths, gift shop, and traditional Danish delicacies at the Saga Café.

The Danish Lutheran Church in Toronto was founded in 1957, with the help of DKU, (Dansk Kirke i Udlandet - Danish Church Abroad). The Danish Lutheran Church in Toronto is quite young compared to the many 800 year old churches in Denmark. But this church is different. It is more than a church. For many Danish immigrants and families who have worshipped in the Danish Lutheran Church, who have been baptized, confirmed and married here, who have had funeral services for their lost family members and friends and who have sung, danced, worked and shared meals together - it has been a way of maintaining and nourishing roots transplanted to Canadian soil.

The Federation of Danish Associations in Canada, hereafter called the Danish Federation, is a national umbrella organization of Danish organizations in Canada. The Danish Federation was established at Sunset Villa in Puslinch, Ontario, on June 7, 1981, with the purpose of bringing together all existing Danish organizations in Canada, to create a permanent network of cooperation. The Federation is a Club of Clubs, and it is therefore the national umbrella organization of the Danes in Canada.
The Federation is made up of over 40 member organizations across Canada. The organizations include churches, senior homes, Guards' Associations, business associations, chambers of commerce, fraternities, historical societies, museums and social clubs.

Denmark-America Fund was founded in 1914 as a private foundation with the purpose of promoting cultural and practical cooperation between Denmark and the United States. Several of the founders of Danish industry were involved and the Royal House was early represented as a patron of the Foundation, which continues to this day. Money for the annual grants is given through private donations to the Foundation, primarily from the Danish business community, other foundations and individuals. The Denmark-America Foundation supports talented Danish students' study stays in the USA, which contribute to both academic and personal development.

The service facilitates contact between companies located in Denmark and qualified international candidates interested in pursuing a career in Denmark. The jobs listed are primarily within IT and tech-related industries though positions within other sectors may also appear. The State of Denmark covers open jobs in all five regions of Denmark. This includes the Capital Region of Denmark, Central Denmark Region, North Denmark Region, Region of Southern Denmark and Region Zealand.
The State of Denmark service is a joint project by the partners Copenhagen Capacity, Business Region Aarhus and Business Region MidtVest. The service is partly funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Danmarks Erhvervsfremmebestyrelse.
