Haugaard's West Denmark Fiddle School -
Looking to inspire and attract students, recognized Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard, founder of the successful International Fiddle School in Breklum Germany, is opened an American version on the shores of beautiful Little Butternut Lake at West Denmark, near Luck, Wisconsin. Check in begins on Sunday, from 3:30 pm until about 5:30 pm with a picnic supper followed by an orientation to the fiddle school. There will be 4 days of instruction ending on Thursday with a final concert in the evening.
Joining Haugaard in 2015 were fiddle players, Antti Järvelä from Finland and Scottish fiddle champion Hanneke Cassel from Boston, Massachusetts. Both Antti and Hanneke have been back every year since. In 2016, Kevin Henderson, fiddler from the internationally known band Boys of the Lough joined the teaching staff. In 2017, Helene Blum, Harald’s wife and acclaimed singer, joined the teaching staff and will be offering an afternoon vocal class. These five amazing fiddle players and teachers will provide for a unique opportunity for playing music, singing, dancing and making new friends. People from all ages and from diverse cultures, countries and styles, are welcome to join and enjoy a common interest: a passion for learning, playing, and sharing the joy of music.
Founded in 2015, the West Denmark Fiddle school, an annual event, will offer a classes for intermediate, advanced, and super advanced level fiddle players and an ensemble class to include cello, guitar, double bass and mandolin. There will be an intensive daily timetable of four instrumental lessons which will give participants an introduction to a wonderful, but seldom heard, repertoire of challenging music based on Scandinavian and Anglo/Celtic music.
Other activities will include a special dinner activity on Monday, a teachers’ concert on Tuesday, and an open stage evening on Wednesday. The fiddle school will conclude with a final concert, open to the public, featuring all students and teachers performing together on stage on Thursday. Checkout and breakfast (optional) will be on Friday morning.
Harald Haugaard's Fiddle School in Germany consistently reaches its maximum enrollment every year with a waiting list. We expect the West Denmark version will continue to be equally popular, please register early to confirm your space as our limit is 50 participants.
