In an email on February 11, Jakob Skaarup Nielsen announced he has accepted a position as CEO for Healthcare Denmark -

Dear friends and Friends of Denmark,

I hope this note finds you in good health and spirits.

2020 marked the 250th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the 75th anniversary of the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago, but like so many other anniversaries these events together with many occasions to celebrate US-DK relations had to be cancelled due to COVID19.

2021 has brought us hope and marks the time for a new beginning. While it is said that timing is everything, also I have learned there is a time for everything as I have now come to a crossroad. After 20 years with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark on 1 March I will take up a position as the CEO for Healthcare Denmark a public private partnership which promotes the healthcare system of Denmark internationally, and will for this reason be completing my posting in Chicago prematurely. I have thoroughly enjoyed every day I have served as the Consul General of Denmark in Chicago, being able to represent Denmark in the Midwest and getting to know you all - Friends of Denmark. Due to the present social restrictions I will not be able to ‘bid farewell and we shall meet again’ at a formal reception, nevertheless please accept my sincere thanks and gratitude for that past 2 ½ years and most importantly I wish you welcome my successor with the same Midwestern warmth and openness as I have received.

Best wishes and with my both my present and future career paths in mind I wish you,

Fair winds & good health,
