Local Authors Release Book “Genuine Journeys of Life”

Two Sioux Falls area authors are releasing a book that is a compilation of twenty individuals’ true-life experiences. The book features stories that are hilarious, heartbreaking and everything in between.

“The book started as a concept in January this year and it grew from there,” said co-author Cindy Lea Bahe, of Sioux Falls. “The Covid virus certainly stirred things up and we had to find different avenues to research stories and alternative methods to interview people. Yet we were able to compile, write or edit stories from people of all walks of life.”

“There are true experiences in this book from several people in South Dakota as well as stories from Illinois, Colorado and Arizona,” said co-author Mike Henriksen of Harrisburg. “Their stories are entertaining, heartfelt, educational and enlightening. I think that’s something we could all use in our lives right now.”

Henriksen told NFDA about his deep Danish roots, "My Great Grandparents on my Grandpa's side were Andrew Peter Henriksen and Ane Pedersen. My greats on Grandma's side were Niles Christen Hansen and Marie Jorgensen. They all immigrated from Denmark in the 1800's.  My grands, Levi Burton Henriksen, and Maren Celia Hansen were born shortly after their parents arrived in the Hampton, Nebraska area.  Levi was born in the sodhouse built on his parent farm. They then built a house adjacent to that. Until the day Levi and Leah, as she was called, you could still see the foundation of the soddy. They were both around in their late 80's when they moved into a nursing home in Aurora, Nebraska".

One story in the new book may be familiar to followers of the National Foundation for Danish America.  The Hiking Viking,  NFDA's Bruce Bro's 2020 hike across the Colorado Trail is included.

The co-authors have Journalism backgrounds and have published books prior to this one. They have plans to publish additional volumes. Pre-orders for the book are now being taken for a limited time waiving shipping and tax costs with delivery of mid-December. Orders are being taken here...
